About this experience
Join a participatory science expedition dedicated to tracking the elusive snow leopard (Panthera uncia) and studying wildlife in Langtang National Park. Over 19 days, you will immerse yourself in the heart of the Himalayas — traversing mixed forests, rhododendron groves, and high alpine terrain — contributing directly to conservation research alongside local naturalists and scientists. No scientific background required, only a passion for nature and adventure.

Day 01 : Arrival in Bhaktapur — Cultural Immersion & Mission Briefing
Warm welcome at the airport and transfer to Bhaktapur, a UNESCO World Heritage newar city. Introduction to local culture and ecological challenges. Team and project presentation.

Day 02 : Bhaktapur – Syafrubesi – Poïro (1770m) — Gateway to Langtang Valley
Jeep transfer to Syafrubesi. Short warm-up walk to first lodge. First biodiversity observations: birds, insects, ground tracks. Introduction to naturalist surveys and transect protocols."

Day 03 : Poïro – Woodland (2750m) — Progressive Ascent & First Naturalist Observations
Full day of progressive ascent through dense forest. Numerous bird sightings, endemic and migratory species, langur monkey groups in the canopy. Immersion in the lower Himalayan ecosystem.

Day 04 : Woodland – Mundu (3530m) — Red Panda Territory & Snowy Peaks
Early start to explore red panda territory in dense biodiverse forest. Vast rhododendron fields in full bloom appear as we approach 3,000m, with the majestic Langtang Lirung peak dominating the valley.

Day 05 : Mundu – Kyanjing Gumpa (3858m) — Acclimatisation in Alpine Zone
A lighter day to aid acclimatisation. First wildlife surveys along the river. Bird and mammal observation, collection of presence indices. Training in tracking techniques and snow leopard sign recognition.
